The Fremont Solstice Parade was started in 1989 by a group of artists seeking to create a sense of community through art. The Parade now attracts tens of thousands of viewers through its spirit of zany fun and community participation. Three simple rules guide the Parade: No motors, no live animals and no printed words or logos. 2000 marked the debut of the Fremont Solstice Pageant, a performance using giant puppets, costumes, dance and music to tell an epic story of the death and rebirth of the Sun.
